我正正有幾枚M645鏡頭,看到網上這圖真令我發呆{:2_37:}

Haha !!!
Good you ask first ........ ;P

I got 50S very shortly after it was launched, and I loved using it, esp with the 120/4 and 110/2.
I got multiple adaptors for multiple lenses type too.
Highly recommended if you don't mind the size, not too heavy though.

As soon as 50R was announced, I reserved one, hoping to swab away the 50S.
After all 50R claimed to be RF-like (though in fact it has NOTHING to do with RF functioning), and "smaller".

It turned out, I sold the 50R rather rapidly, about two weeks, after I got it.
Although it's not that thick as compared with 50S, it's in fact bigger in the other two dimensions.
There is no good grip, hence it "feels much heavier", and hand muscles strain away very rapidly.
Together with still no IBIS, that means one shakes rather easily, esp with long and heavy lenses.
The built quality is nothing to compared with 50S ( you'll have the feel once you play with both), so bad that in fact I had to got my first 50R camera body exchanged for a second one, because of non-functioning buttons ...

You feel like holding a very heavy huge "folder", together with a heavy lens, both tend to slip away from your strained hand anytime, not to mention about shaky shots even with the 45/2.8 .......

... well, maybe it's just me, and my small weak hand ;P

When I told staffs of xxx that I already sold the 50R, they smiled and said, yes, some say it's a 美麗的誤會, while others say feel like 遇上補藥黨(的不適當宣傳) :@

Thanks kgv Hing for your prompt reply.

Is the GFX50R really so bad? In this case, I guess I’d better sought more comments before making the decision.
When you mentioned the imbalance of holding the camera with lens, do you mean the original G-mount Fuji lens? Indeed, what I am thinking of is to use my Mamiya M645 lenses on the GFX instead of getting auto-focus lenses which are supposedly much heavier than manual ones.

Btw, I am not too sure why this happen, but I failed to shoot satisfactory picture by autofocus lens and that’s properly one of the major reasons why I like shooting M.

Yes, of course, in general the lighter the lens the better.
But I guess it's the ergonomic of the handgrip that's causing the trouble.

Just go to shop and have a hold on the 50R, and compared it with the 50S (which I decided to keep), and you'll know what i am talking about.

In fact, as a comparison, in the past few days I have been happily playing with the even heavier S1R, with the damned heavy S50.4 mounted on it.
The small muscles of my hand also feel the strain, but I never feel or have to worry that the camera will slip away from my hand, thanks to the good ergonomic of the Lumix S grip.

How good is the S1R in terms of operation convenient and image quality?

Talking about L-mount camera, I have quite high expectation on the one to be released by Sigma next year using the Foveon X3 sensor. I really hope Sigma can nail it this time.
Do you think this would help solving the handgrip issue?

Size and weight aside, I am very satisfied with the photo output by S1R, esp with the S50/1.4, which has the words "certified by Leica" printed on the lens body. (I have no expereince in the SL50.4, so cannot comment on any difference)

The kit zoom lens, 24-107@f/4, is good but not very good, while the 50/1.4 is fast and accurate, with high resolution power.
To me, Z7 with Z50/1.8 loses to S1R with 50/1.4 !

Yes, I am also waiting for, with high hope, the coming Sigma L mount FF, but there'd still be one more year to wait, at least.
So I am itchy to try on this L-body with IBIS.

Will try on some Leica manual lenses later, and see if the "Leica feel" can be found here in the S1R;P

Great !

Very happy to know how the Leica lenses on S1R turn out :P

Meanwhile, I probably need to give getting the GFX50 a second thought and perhapswait for the Sigma ;P

As per kgv Hing's suggestion,I went to shop and tried out both the 50R and 50S on the other day.

To me, 50S is obviously heavier than 50R and I find the grip of 50S a little bit big for my hand while the 50R fits comfortably in my hand. Indeed, looking at the GFX50R immediately reminds me of the long-missing Fujifilm's G690 film camera :P. While testing the GFXs, I have also picked up Nikon Z7 and LUMIX S1R for trial. Both cameras felt like they are substantially heavier than the GFX50R despite of their size.
Of course, at the end of the day, I have brought GFX50R home. Right now, I am using Mamiya M645 and Pentacon P6 lenses on it with adaptor. My feeling is mostly on the positive side notwithstanding that I need more time to get familiar with all the knobs and Fuji’s operation mode, in particular when processing RAF files.

In the meantime, thank you for all C-Hings’ advices, especially kgv Hing.

Thanks Jason Hing.

The GFX50R indeed has given my M645 and P6 mount lenses a new life !

Meanwhile, I am trying to put various M-mount lenses on it for trial. Even though most of them cannot cover 4:3, I managed to shoot 16:9 with Elmarit-M 21/f3.4 this morning and the effect is quite acceptable to me :loveliness:

Here comes a trial photo taken with Carl Zeiss Jena Biometer 80/f2.8:

Jason Hing,

I indeed have considered getting the GFX since the 50S was released ;P

After reading all the comments, local and abroad, I could not resist the temptation any more, especially consider GFX50R's value-for-money when comparing to a M10P.

I have to admit that I am a strong believer of the BIG theory in respect of film's negative and digital sensor, i.e. the bigger the better :P

It is more than normal for you to be tempted to move up to digital medium format with the release of the GFX. Its size/weight and price tag are a big step from what we used to in respect of medium format digital camera/back.

As kgv Hing previously suggested to me, you should go and try out a GFX at shop to get a feel of it. Perhaps you may not want it afterwards, though I guess the chance is rather slim :lol

Your comments are so poisonous, ww129 hing!! :P

Yes. I did play with 50R a bit at store and simply loved the form factor, considering that it has a 44x33 sensor. In terms of weight, I think it is even lighter than many DSLRs.

But I forced myself to wait at that time, because I knew GFX 100 was coming. I hoped to test GFX 100 before making any decision. But GFX100 is a MUCH heavier camera. I don't know if my neck and back would like it. The AF of GFX100 should be very good nonetheless.

I agree with you that digital backs are really yesteryear's technology, at least for people like us who are hobbyists. DB + med format body are way too heavy and cumbersome.

If there is a 100mp sensor in a 50R body, that would be perfect!!! But to be honest, I think 50mp is more than enough for our need!!

Please post more photos when you have time. Love your pics! :)

Jason Hing,

GFX100 is probably too heavy and bulky for my age to carry around. Its high megapixel is attractive but I just wonder if an amateur, like me, really needs such kind of resolution, not to mention the resources required for processing its files in computer.
Last but not least, I am glad you like my pictures. Thanks for your encouragement ;-)
