Let me start with my M3 the 19th. This shares all characteristics of early M3 but most importantly, it is one of the "batch 1" of M3 consist of the first 24 M3 ever made. To me these first 24 M3s are the most special M3 of all production M3.
I am so lucky to be the owner of one.
My M4BP, the only Leica M I'm keeping now...

The top and back. We all love the contours (Corner), better if it appears in both front and back. Not all early M3 have the corner, some have one, some have both, some have none! The earlier one's contour look a little like those on M3 prototype, the later one is less of a step but more a straight corner.
The lens on the M3 is an early reverse scallop 50mm summulux version 1. Probably the earlier few hundred or so. It doesn't extractly match the year this M3 manufactured but I do personlly like the look of Summilux on M3. Furthermore, most reverse scallop summilux have a very shinny chrome finish, so as some of the earlest M3.. they do match nicely to me.
There's many other areas to deferentiate early M3, but the discuss probably belongs to another thread!

This is also a 量產型... just earlier... all M3/M2/M4 etc. are vintage, true vintage. 休得跟.......

To support the thread,
I post a repainted hammertone M3 I like and treasure very much.
It was acquired from a dealer in Hong Kong only some months ago.
The hammertone paint is nicely done and attractive, and the furnitures (all knobs) are still 95% new.
I do use it occasionally but ultra carefully. Here is how this repainted hammertone grey differs from Leica's LHSA one.
