Love it, hate it
The new SL has been drawing a lot of controversies about the look and how it has ruined the Leica's reputation. Leica fans hated it.Personally, I like the design of the SL body. Not much bigger than the M240 when a MF handgrip is used. The feel is strong and solid but not too heavy.
The EVF is very good which makes focusing a lot easier.
When fitted with old M lenses, it looks modern yet vintage!

On the other hand, the 24-90 Vario has received more curse than praise. The size, weight and the relatively slow lens did not win any approval from diehard M fans.
Frankly speaking, it is a very big, fat and heavy lens. Sitting next to big and heavy M/R lenses like Noct and R100, the Vario 24-90 is in super heavyweight.

At the end of the page when responded to 2 of his readers, he put down some issues he had with SL. Lloyd Chambers should be on the "hate" side but reading through the lines, one can understand the SL a bit more.

I spent more time with my M & R lenses instead of the Vario 24-90. Reasons being the said physical size and weight, but more on the habitual operation and routine of using M.

It is so hard not to try all the different lenses. The SL body is like having 3 new cameras; a new M, a new R and a new AF when using the Vario 24-90.
I only wish I could stick to one lens long enough to explore more. Elmarit-M 1:2.8/21

分享比較是樂趣，過程中可加深每支鏡的特性認識。
買而唔用實是浪費。
24-90 相信是好鏡，但相處短短兩週，只可作表面評估，兄台如有圖片分享介紹其長短，大家都會受益。
另外防潮柜在多年前已經塞爆，支24-90 咁巨肥，只可暫作門或紙鎮! {:4_105:} With R80 1.4, it is ergonomic and balance

As Whatafather and many other reviewers said, 24-90 is 對焦快，macro 勁 (yet to find out)!
For the first few attempts, I found myself lost and unable to focus.
First, I have been so used to do focus manually for years and AF or "do nothing" is not part of my routine.
Second, with 24-90 there are a lot of different options with AF, AFs, AFC, spot, area, field and etc, there are too many variables that upsetting my habitual stream of subconscious routine with manual focus. I was not able to capture that "decisive moments".
Third, the size and weight is just a bit off-putting when I have many R & M lenses to use and try.
So on Sunday, I decided to take only the 24-90 out to Sydney Harbour and walked across the Bridge.
After a few warm-up shots, I slowly get to understand the flow, but it is still hard to talk photos without being noticed, unlike the smaller M lenses with M9/240, I can shoot from the hips! So I did a few "影後" shots to test

Quite enjoy watch your shots. Seems you are going to be busy for a while playing with the new lens and camera. Looks like lots of fun testing out R & M lenses with the new toy.
